The Beastie!

This is one of our Bichenos, pictured behind him is our oldest Gouldian (Red headed mutation), these two have proved to be excellent happy breeding birds. This Bicheno is an extremely entertaining bird, he just loves to play 'dad' and spends many an hour flitting about collecting nesting material and sitting on phantom eggs, strange little guy! He can also be seen in the photo below closest to the right.

Various Estrildids, Poephil guttata, Poephila biechenovii, Estrilda melpoda

These are the first birds that went into the new flight years ago, seems so long ago now that there were so few in here, there were also some pairs in cages and in quarantine at this time. This particular flight connects to an outside flight and there are now quite a few birds in here, this photo was taken from inside. It's approximately five feet by six and a half feet by seven feet high. The outside flight is twice the lenght and the same width and height. This flight was undergoing finishing touches at the time, new perches vegetation, covered roosting places as well as nesting areas were being added. The birds were all fairly tame by now anyway as they had all been in quarantine in cages and some had spent a fair time in the house with us. The orange cheeks had spent nearly a year free flying in our house while this aviary was designed and constructed.
