Poephila bichenovii family with an adult pair of Amandava subflava

This is a photo of two of our adult Gold breast waxbill pair alongside the Bicheno father(Beastie as he is known around here). Also with him are some of his chicks, you can still see the black beaks and markings on some of their faces, gape markings of all kinds appear in Estrildid species chicks. Also regarding chick gape markings, all these birds exhibit species characteristic beak patterns inside their beaks usually visible as black spot patterns against a white lining and even extending into their throats. These are easily seen when checking chicks in their nests, mainly because there is a huge mouth shouting for food!
